After reading through all the posts from this semester,
I have learned that I have become a lot stronger in my arguments and have
gained more skills in creating a better platform for my ideas. Some of the
highs were when I had to interview people, because it was very interesting to
hear what other people thought of my ideas. Some of the lows included
assignments where I had to identify things that bothered me. I didn’t enjoy
this assignment as much because I truly don’t hate a lot of things and am a positive
person overall. The most formative experience for me was finding my secret
sauce. This will be something that I remember for a long time because it helps
me understand what differentiates me from the other people out there. My most joyous
was interviewing my friends and family to hear what traits they thought I had because
it made me feel very good about myself. I am proud of myself for creating a
venture concept because it took a long time and I really had to focus on what I
wanted to do with my company to complete the assignment. After going through
this class, I consider myself to be way more of an entrepreneur because I feel
as though I know how to think like one better now. I have come very close to
having an entrepreneurial mindset because when I see opportunity, I want to do something
to fix it. My one recommendation for students who are going to journey down
this path is to pay attention to detail and make sure they absorb all of the information
that they can from people looking over their ideas and solutions. I would also
recommend that the students create a schedule to follow so that they can
effectively get their work done on time and make sure that it is solid work. I
think that fostering this mindset takes a step forward in improving their work
ethic. I think that this class can help improve your work ethic if you put your
mind to it.

Venture Concept No. 2
Longer weekend hours
for on campus food places
After attending the
University of Florida for nearly a whole year, I have encountered many positive
and negative aspects about the school. One thing that bugs me all the time is
the limited hours for some of the food places on the weekends. I have asked
around and it seems like many people also have a problem with this. The more
and more people I talked to made it clear who I needed to target for the
implementation of my product. The group of students who live on campus and are
on the meal plan are the group who would be most willing to backup my idea.
This opportunity for change came when I realized that going places on campus
during the weekend is quite difficult and not something that is ideal for
everyone. I figured that if restaurants on campus kept their stores open on the
weekends or extended their hours, they would be able to drive in more revenue
than they would anticipate. Currently, a student who lives on campus would go
off campus to get something to eat, wasting time and even not using their meal
plan effectively. This opportunity could be very big because not only could I
create revenue for myself, I could help the stores make more money, and even
save the students time and money as well. This window of opportunity could also
be open for a very long time, if places on campus accept meal plans and remain
open.
Innovation is
something that I thought a lot before finalizing the idea for my service. I
thought a lot to myself about whether someone would have tried this before or
if it was tested and failed. After looking into it, I believe that it has never
been a possibility and the school has not tested it out. The school would be
foolish not to at least give it a test run. If they try it out and realize that
they can gain more money from it, and satisfy the students’ needs more, then
they should feel that implementing it is a smart move. What I want to do with
my service is charge the students a flat rate charge on top of their meal plan
to be eligible to eat at the restaurants any time that the restaurant is open.
With the money I collect from the students, I should be able to pay the
companies to keep the stores open longer on the weekends and give the students
optimal times for eating there. I think that a flat rate charge of $50 per
semester would be reasonable because it would allow them to eat wherever they
want on their meal plans. This amount of money would be roughly 6 meals
somewhere off campus. Instead of buying those 6 meals off campus, they can save
that money and use it for something else. The money that they have in their
meal plan is money they already anticipated on spending on food, thus allowing
the extra 50 to be money they do not have to use off campus.
When it all comes
together, you can realize that I have come up with a way to save the students
time and money. Instead of using money off campus at places they probably do
not even want to eat at, they can use that money to pay for my service which is
far more convenient and cheaper. I think that customers would use this service
because it is something that will allow students to save time which is a big
factor for a lot of people in college. It will not be hard to get them to
switch once I put into perspective how much cheaper it would be to just use my
service rather than go off campus to get something. I think that the only
competitors would be the off-campus places which would make deals during the
weekend to pull students back off campus to eat cheaper at their restaurants.
My price point is set so that it can help pay the restaurants extra money to be
open for longer. This money can be used to pay employees or utility bills that
might be racked up for being open during the weekends. The customer experience
would be a lot better because they would realize the school and food places
care about their needs and want to do something more convenient for them. I
would organize this business by trying to show students how nice it would be to
have this opportunity.
My most important
resource will be the fact that I want to make everyone happy. With my service,
I will try to make it beneficial for both the students who buy my service, and
the restaurants who agree to stay open longer on the weekends. My next step for
my venture will be to propose my idea to the school. None of this will be able
to happen unless I talk to a representative who tells me what I can and cannot
do with this idea. What is next for me is a lot of hard work. I will need to
convince everyone that my service is the best thing that they can buy and how
it will save them so much time and money if they opt to buy it. I hope that this
business takes off and I can even look into helping other schools who have the
same problem as The University of Florida does.
The feedback I received on my post was very positive.
I did not get any negative feedback and I was happy to hear that the people who
commented on my post thought that my idea was very good, and they really liked
my plans for everything.
The one thing I did feel I needed to change was some
of the grammar in my post. Some of the sentences didn’t fully get my points
across, so I improved those to make sure that they got the point across better.
I think that after rewording it better, I have enabled my followers to get a
better idea of what I truly want in my venture concept.

Your Exit Strategy
My exit strategy would be to completely sell the company. I
would hope to sell the entire company within the next 5 years. I do not plan on
staying with the business for a very long time. I want the business to be
something that can be kept within students that attend the University of Florida,
so I will not keep it in my family.
I selected this exit strategy because I feel like it is a
service that people who attend the university care more about and it would be
better able to help the cause if they are located close to the campus to do so.
I think my exit strategy has helped me understand that it is a
problem specifically on our campus and it is not something that is a problem
all around. It helped me understand that the opportunity group was the students
who live on campus with meal plans. It has definitely influenced my growth and
focus into who I am targeting.
Reading Reflection No. 3
The book I read was The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users written by Guy
Kawasaki. The general them of the book was basically highlighting all of the
positive things that come from Social Media. He argues that despite the
negative things that are out there about social media, there are a fair number
of positive things that really help businesses and people improve.
This book connected directly to the class because we
post all of our assignment responses on an online blog which is technically
social media. This book also enhanced the fact that things that you do on
social media drastically influence how your company is doing. The book liked to
highlight all of the positive things for it.
My exercise would be to design a fake Instagram post
that advertises your product. You would have to take a picture of something and
then come up with a caption to it that made people want to buy your product or
service.
My biggest surprise was when I heard that Pinterest is
a great way to gain ideas and pictures for your products and businesses. I
thought that this was impressive because I never would have thought of it to be
a big influence on businesses. This differed the most because I assumed that it
would be a different site or not even a social media page, but it turned out to
be that.
Celebrating Failure
This semester I have done some great things, but I have
also done some things that were not great and impressive. I think that one of
the times that I did not do so great and failed was when I was taking a Biology
class here at UF. I am more of a math person and biology is something I am not
great with and do not understand very well. Despite spending a lot of time
studying for my first couple exams, I did not do great on them. I still have
one test left that could be my best one yet, and I am trying to improve my
grade and prove to myself I know a little bit about biology. From this
experience I learned that I have to study multiple days in advance to do better
in that class.
Overall, I think that failure can be a good thing
because it teaches you how to be persistent and never give up. Despite not
doing great on these tests, I have learned to just keep studying harder and
longer to do better on the next one. There is no point in giving up, I just
have to keep going.

What’s Next?
Existing Market:
The next step for me is
to talk to a representative from the school to propose my idea. Since I have
enough support, I think that I now must talk to someone with the power to use
my plan and implement it into our school.
After interviewing the
three people who are already in the market for my service, I learned some good
information from them. They informed me that I should first come up with a
pitch to them using numbers showing how I could make them more money by using
my idea. I think that the most logical move from here is to pitch my idea and
come up with an anticipated revenue stream for them if the restaurants stayed
open on the weekends.
Based on my ideas and the
feedback I got from the people I interviewed, I think that I will plan to show
the school my idea by pitching them it and by showing them potential numbers if
they keep them open. Another idea I have is to do a couple test runs to show
the school how much money they could be bringing in if they go with my idea. We
could try a couple of different time frames for keeping them open and test the profitability
while also testing customer satisfaction.
New Market:
A different market for me is the group of students at
UF who live off campus. Despite their limited needs to go into campus on the
weekends, if there are places to eat for longer hours, then there is a greater
chance that these people would come in and eat on campus. This could be because
it is cheaper for them, or they like the options that the campus has to offer.
After interviewing two people from the new market
group, I learned a little bit more about if I could rope them into my idea. The
problem I faced was that one of them thought it was a great idea, and the other
one thought that it was a poor idea. The person who thought it was a good idea
thought that he would come into campus more if the longer hours were an option.
He said that I should continue my journey by going to the school and pitching
my idea through giving the benefits of implementing my service. However, the
other one was not able to see himself coming into campus and said that it would
not be something he would be interested in.
I am not discouraged by this however, because if roughly
half of the people who live off campus are interested in it, then it could work
out well. I think that this group can help my plan a lot because they are a
group that the school wouldn’t think would be interested in my service, but if
I can prove to them that they are, I can earn a lot of credit from the school
and maybe be able to push my service farther.

Elevator Pitch No. 3
After reading the feedback from my second elevator pitch,
it seemed that my peers thought that I did a great job improving my pitch. They
said that I did a great job of keeping my audience engaged and did a great job
of getting my points across. Despite all of the positive feedback, I was told
that I need to work on closing out my elevator pitch. I did a great job on the
pitch until the very end where I had a slight problem closing out with a little
stumble since I didn’t know what to say.
Based on my feedback, I
improved the flow of my pitch. I made sure to finish strong and keep the audience
engaged the whole time. I made sure that I kept doing my hand motions like I
had been doing in the previous pitches and made sure to connect with the
audience. I feel as though I did a good job with this pitch with how I
incorporated all of the feedback I received and continuing to use my style that
people seemed to like a lot.
Reading Reflection No. 2
I read How to
Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams. Adams main
theme is that despite taking many failures, there are still so many
opportunities to succeed in life. He uses 3 main points in his book which are;
using systems not goals, taking risks to apply for jobs, and thinking of activities
as time and space. Using these three points he describes in depth how you can become
more successful and do better and whatever you are doing.
I think that this book enhanced what we are learning
in class because it showed me how to battle through the losses that I may have
taken during this class, and how to turn those failures into positive learning
experiences.
If I had to create an exercise for this class, I would
try to make it something that involves scheduling and developing a schedule to
stick to during the class, so that people taking the class could figure out
when and how they are going to do their work.
My biggest surprise in the book was when he talked
about using systems not goals. This was a big aha moment because it made me realize
I have to develop a system on how to reach my goals, not just a goal to set. If
you just set a goal, you will not know exactly how to reach it without a set
process.

Growing Your Social Capital
Domain: One of my friends who goes to Elon University
found that the hours the dining halls were open weren’t very convenient for
him. He decided to try to make a change by talking to the school about it. I
talked to my friend over the phone to see how he was going about trying to fix
the problem at his school. He gave me information about it if I would get him a
McDonald’s burger when we get home from school. Using this insight, I will be
better able to try and approach the school with my idea.
Market: My Dad’s friend works at a college and knows
the details of how the food places work. After talking to him he told me
reasons of why the companies may not want to extend hours but he reassured me
that it is possible because they do talk about extending hours occasionally. He
told me all this information for free but said it would be nice if I did some
yard work for my dad in exchange. Using this information, I have reassurance that
the school would indeed be willing to change things up.
Supplier: One of the managers at Chick-Fil-A on campus
told me that she works with the school with the hours of her store. She told me
how it might be easy to get them to extend their hours on Saturday since they
are closed on Sundays. She said that it could be possible if I keep working on
it and gathering people to support my idea. She gave me all this insight for
the promise that I would continue to eat Chick-Fil-A often. Using this
information, I am reassured that my favorite restaurant could potentially be
open for longer hours on Saturdays.
I think that this experience has helped shape my
networking process because I have realized that a lot more people than I
previously thought are interested in my idea. I am now more confident in my idea
and will continue to work on it so I can prepare it to be presented to the
school. This experience was different than others because I was talking to people
that actually had pull on the topic and could either help change things or
have experience in this field.
Idea Napkin No. 2
I am a college student that likes to hangout with
friends and go out. My talents include being a good leader, bringing out the
best in everyone, and being able to connect with people. My experiences include
leading a club and raising lots of money for our cause. I aspire to be successful
and make the world a better place by helping others and bringing others up.
This business design for me would play a role in my life because it would be
easier and cheaper for me to eat on campus on the weekend, and I can use the
money for other things that I would want.
I am offering to my customers the ability to go
anywhere to eat on the weekends and be able to rely on the place being open. My
customers are college students who live on campus and do not have any form of
transportation or would rather eat on campus during the weekends and not have
to commute anywhere. The customers all have in common that they want to have
extended hours during the weekend to enable them to eat anywhere at any time
they want. The customers care because they are tired of paying extra money and
giving up extra time to go off campus to get food. These customers would rather
pay a small amount of money for extra convenience and cheaper food options. What
sets me apart from others is my drive to find common ground between people and
make everyone happy. I want the solution in the end to be something that both
parties can be happy with.
I think that all of the elements of my business fit
together well because I know who I am targeting, and I know what those people
want. I don’t think that there are many weak parts because I believe there
would be high demand with everything that I am bringing to the table.
The feedback I got was very positive and I was happy
that people thought that my idea was well put together and doable. They did say
however that they are worried about the price being a turn off for college
students. I considered it and I decided to disagree with this idea. I think that
college students are also concerned about time, and if I save them time during
the weekend then they probably wouldn’t be worried about spending a little extra
money. The difference between the money that they would spend at an off campus
place and a place on campus would be greater than the simple cost of paying for
my service.

Elevator Pitch No. 2
After
taking feedback and re-watching my last elevator pitch, I thought that I did a
pretty good job overall but there were some things I need to change. I think
that I need to be more exact in the points I am making. I did a little bit of
talking in circles which was not good, and I need to improve on that. In
addition, I think I need to relate to the audience better. However, I do think
that I did a good job with hand motions and speaking clearly and loudly. After
reading the feedback from my peers, I decided to get right to the point and try
to capture the audience and relate to them. Hopefully it is a better pitch and improves
upon the things I did wrong at first.
Create a Customer Avatar
My customers have the hobbies of hanging out with friends,
playing sports, and relaxing. They tend to drive standard cars or pickup
trucks. They watch funny and action filled TV shows like Friends or Game of Thrones.
They do not have children, and only some of them are adopted. They like to read
their school books and some other classics that are interesting to them. They
tend to be conservative and liberal like regular college students. They are in
the age range of 18-22.
I have many things in common with my avatar, including
our hobbies, our age, and the kind of car we drive. I think that we have these
things in common because we are all college students who are trying to get
through college without spending a ton of extra money.

What’s Your Secret Sauce?
1. I
am different than everyone else because I am kind, outgoing, analytical,
intelligent and a good leader.
2. My
Friend: Funny, tall, smart, outgoing, and curious
My Girlfriend: Kind, smart,
thoughtful, helpful, and loyal
My Mom: Smart, outgoing, thoughtful, intelligent,
and generous
My Roommate: Smart, outgoing,
generous, a little messy, thoughtful
My Friend: Smart, loyal, analytical,
a good leader, and kind.
3. For
the most part, the people who I interviewed thought the same way about me as I
feel about myself. They all seem to think I am kind and smart which is
something I want people to think of me as. Some differences included that people
thought that I was very loyal which I may have forgot to put on my list,
because I think I am loyal. I think I don’t see differences like these because
it’s just who I am, and I have always been that way. I do think that my
interviewers were right about me though and I do not think I would make any
corrections besides maybe adding a couple others to my list.
Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2
1. 18-year-old living in Broward Hall:
· Does
price matter the most when choosing where to eat during the weekend?
o
Yes, because if I eat on the meal plan during
the weekend, I am just using money that is already in my account, and if I go off
campus, I must use separate money that I didn’t plan on buying food with.
· Does
quality of food matter when choosing where to eat on the weekend?
o
Yes, I would prefer to eat at a more
quality place than the dining hall because I eat at the dining hall often and I
am looking for diversity in food.
· Does
your food choice decision depend on whether you have a form of transportation?
o
No, I would rather eat at an on-campus
place because it is more convenient, and I would rather walk to get there.
· How
do you usually go get your food on the weekends?
o
I typically walk.
· What
is considered a good food purchase on the weekends?
o
Something quick and filling that I do not
have to go far for.
2. 19-year-old living in a fraternity house:
· Does
price matter the most when choosing where to eat during the weekend?
o
Yes, because I think the places on campus
tend to be cheaper than off campus places.
· Does
quality of food matter when choosing where to eat on the weekend?
o
Yes, the only place that is almost always
open is the dining hall and I don’t love to eat there, so I wish there were
other places to go on the weekends.
· Does
your food choice decision depend on whether you have a form of transportation?
o
Yes, if one of my friends can take me to an
off-campus place by car, I would just go with them because it is far easier.
· How
do you usually go get your food on the weekends?
o
I usually walk because we do not have
meals at the house, but sometimes I go with my friends in their cars.
· What
is considered a good food purchase on the weekends?
o
Something that fills me up and is
enjoyable to eat.
3. 19-year-old living in Tolbert Hall:
· Does
price matter the most when choosing where to eat during the weekend?
o
Yes, because I only like to use my meal
plan to eat on campus.
· Does
quality of food matter when choosing where to eat on the weekend?
o
Yes, if I am paying for my food, I would
hope that it is high quality and fills me up and enjoy it.
· Does
your food choice decision depend on whether you have a form of transportation?
o
No, I just like to walk places on campus
because we have a high diversity of places to eat and I like them all.
· How
do you usually go get your food on the weekends?
o
I typically walk to the places on campus.
· What
is considered a good food purchase on the weekends?
o
Something that doesn’t take a long time to
eat and is open when I need it to be.
Through my 3 new interviews, I learned that people value
price when considering what they want to eat. Usually they would rather it not
take a long time to get there and they would prefer it to be open whenever they
want. Overall, I would consider that people without transportation that live on
campus have a strong need for more places to be open on the weekends. Without these
places being open, the people have an unmet need that needs to be fixed for
them to have a smoother way of getting food on the weekends. These people are

Halfway Reflection
1. I
have made sure to do all my work on time and make sure that I set aside a lot
of time to do my assignments thoroughly and on time. I have also made sure that
all my work is turned in in an organized manner. It would bother me if all my
work wasn’t neat because I would start to confuse myself.
2. I
felt like giving up one time when I was taking a cupcake. I felt like giving up
because I didn’t know the answers to a couple of them and I felt extremely discouraged.
However, I knew that I couldn’t just quit so I took some educated guesses and
got some right and some wrong. After I didn’t do so well on it, I went back and
looked at the questions and researched the answers to make sure I had a full
understanding of them. After all of this though I think I developed a more
tenacious mindset because now I am more willing to grind out work and make sure
that my work is high quality.

Tips for next semesters students:
· Set
aside time to work on the assignments and watch the lectures. It is an online class,
so it is on you to make sure you complete all the work on time.
· Don’t
cut corners. Make sure that you do all the work that you need to. If you cut
corners you will not learn anything from the class, and you will just consider
the class’s homework busy work.
· Take
extra time to think of good opportunities. Opportunities that you find are the
most important part of the class because everything you do with the class ties
into the main opportunity you pick, so make it a good one.
Reading Reflection No. 1
1. The
thing the was most surprising to me about Shoe
Dog by Phil Knight is that he is so private in his life and does not enjoy
the public spotlight that many people enjoy. I admire most his persistence and
his dedication to his work. I least admire the controversy around the child
labor accusations. Phil Knight did encounter failure when his first Japanese
shipment didn’t come in right away, so he ended up having to work another job
to make some money.
2. I
noticed that Phil Knight can pursue his dreams and keep going and working
towards goals that he has. He also is willing to talk to others to see what
their opinions are on his work.
3. I
was a little confused about the start up of Nike, like when he was working with
the Japanese company originally.
4. My
two questions for Phil Knight would be:
· Did
you ever consider giving up when it got difficult?
· If
you have the idea but not the money, what do you do?
5. I
think that his opinion of hard work is diligent and focused work that is
outside of your comfort zone. I agree with this meaning of hard work and think
that it should apply for everyone.

transportation
1. Freshman
student who lives on campus

you need to get somewhere without walking, how do you get there?
o
I usually take the buses to get there.
· If
you cannot take this form of transportation what do you do?
o
I try to find a ride from one of my two
friends who have cars.
· Do
you ever pay money to use any form of transportation?
o
Yes, occasionally I must pay for ubers to
get places.
· Do
you think paying money to go somewhere else is worth it?
o
Yes, I think that the money I pay is
usually worth it because if I need to go somewhere, I think that paying to get
there is worth it.
· If
given the opportunity to pay money to a service that makes you need transportation
less, would you take it?
o
Yes absolutely.

and take me to the place I need.

chipped in money for gas for my friends that drive me around.

they are unreliable.
· Do
you ever pay money to use any form of transportation?
o
Yes, but only when I am desperate.
· Do
you think paying money to go somewhere else is worth it?
o
Yes, because if I really need to go
somewhere, paying a little money to get there is nice.
· If
given the opportunity to pay money to a service that makes you need transportation
less, would you take it?
o
Yes, I would.
After conducting my interviews with the segment I
chose, I found that people who do not have forms of transportation are still
using money to find rides to go places that they need to. I am drawing a
conclusion that some of these students may be using transportation to get to
places where they can get something to eat. Since they are paying money for
transportation, I believe that they would be willing to spend some of that
money on my idea that would allow them to eat at places on campus during the
weekends. Instead of taking transportation, they can just walk to a place close
by and get something that they want.
